10 Great Ways to Use Church Websites (Part 1)

Trinity Web Hosting hosting works with churches and christian groups from all over Canada and the United States. We decided to cull through the websites of these different groups to find 10 great ways that churches and christian groups can use their sites - 10 great website features that different groups are using - that can be a benefit to almost any church or christian group. If you have any questions about any of them, please drop us a note at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

  1. Displaying service, location, and contact information. (riverwestchurch.org - service times at the top and location at the bottom of every page) This may seem obvious, and it is, but sometimes people don't realize how important it is to have this information front and center on your website.  People use the internet to find everything, including churches.  Many people won't even go to a church for the first time if they cannot find the service times on the internet.  Even long time members refer to the church website for information they may have missed on Sunday, and to refer others to the church.
  2. To advertise church events and announcements. (http://firstbaptistrd.ca/events-calendar/announcements)  Not everybody makes it to every Sunday service, so the church website can be a great central place to keep church attenders updated on what's happening, as well as give newcomers a flavor of what opportunities and groups are available at the church.
  3. To post weekly sermons online (http://canyonschurch.net/watch/articles/video-archive) I used to know pastors and others who would take cassette tapes of worship services out to shut ins, so they to could be receive from the weekly singing and sermons.  With online services and messages, that's much easier and your church can reach a much broader audience with its speaking ministry. It's also nice to be able to listen on your phone in the car as your travelling.
  4. To post an online calendar of events (http://christgospelvb.org/calendar-of-events) Calendars are great for seeing everything that's going on at a glance, as well as reminding you of where you're supposed to be.  Online calendars are just as great, but far more people can see them and keep up with what is going on at your church.
  5. To post the church library online (http://firstcrcedmonton.ca/ministries/library/catalogue)  Not every church is going to want to do this.  It takes a lot of work to setup and keep up, but it is a great tool for making good Christian books available to church members.  My wife served as a church librarian for many years, and it was always a struggle to get people to value and read the books.  Putting the library online helps people search for the books they want when they have some time, not just after church.

Look for five more great ways to use your church website in next weeks TWH News blog.
